Mechanical Engineer (Test Benches, Propulsion)

Mission 

As a Mechanical Engineer at PLD Space, your mission is to contribute to the development and maintenance of test benches that ensure the reliable and accurate testing of our systems and components. You will play a crucial role in supporting the testing and validation processes, thereby ensuring the overall quality and performance of our products.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering design, production, and quality assurance, to gather requirements and contribute to the design and development of test benches. 
  • Assist in the implementation and setup of test benches, including the installation of necessary equipment, instrumentation, and software. 
  • Conduct functional testing and calibration of test benches to ensure accurate and consistent measurement capabilities. 
  • Perform tests on aerospace systems and components using the test benches, following established procedures and protocols. 
  • Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and resolve any issues or malfunctions related to the test benches. 
  • Maintain and update documentation related to test bench configurations and procedures. 
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment during test bench operations. 
  • Collaborate with external vendors and contractors for the procurement of necessary equipment, components, and services related to test bench development. 
  • Document all test bench development activities, including designs, procedures, maintenance logs, and incident reports. 



Required Knowledge

  • Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s degree or demonstrable relevant experience in lieu thereof. Advanced degree preferred. 
  • >3 years of relevant technical experience in mechanisms or hydraulic systems design. 
  • Understanding of measurement techniques and instrumentation used in testing and validation processes.
  • Knowledge in selection and application of design criteria and rules, materials, strengths, and other mechanical properties, according to the loading conditions, working environment, etc. 
  • Ability to perform mechanical calculations.
  • High degree of CAD competence. 
  • Preferred software: Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Generate documentation related to hydraulic systems, including performance calculations and unifilar diagrams. 
  • Generate documentation for formal program development reviews.

  • Ability to make informed decisions under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic and challenging environment



Desired Competencies
  • Experience with test bench development or operation in the aerospace industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in design industrial machinery, hydraulics or fluid and gas lines such as water, liquid oxygen, kerosene, nitrogen, or helium.   
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ASME, API, DIN, ISO).
  • English B2
