Mission 

PLD Space is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Material Engineer experienced in metals to join our dynamic team. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in non-destructive testing (NDT), with expertise in tomography and ultrasonic testing. This role involves the application of metallurgical engineering principles to design, develop, and improve our metal parts and products, with particular focus on the engine components. 

The candidate will be responsible for analysing and testing metals to determine their physical and chemical properties, as well as ensuring the quality and integrity of materials through advanced NDT techniques. Recruitment

 

Responsibilities 

  • Perform detailed materials characterization to understand microstructure, composition, and properties. 
  • Develop and apply NDT methods, with a focus on tomography and ultrasonic testing, for material inspection. 
  • Interpret test results and provide comprehensive reports on findings. 
  • Collaborate with the production team to improve material selection and processing. 
  • Lead failure analysis investigations and propose corrective actions. 
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations. 
  • Conduct material selection and advise on metallurgical properties and performance. 
  • Develop and optimize metal treatment processes. 
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and NDT techniques. 


Necessary Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in metallurgy, with a focus on NDT. 
  • Proficiency in tomography and ultrasonic testing techniques. 
  • Solid understanding of materials science principles and metallurgical processes. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication and report writing abilities. 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations. 
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities. 
  • Fluent written and oral communication both in Spanish and English. 
  • Experience with non-ferrous metals, in particular Copper and Nickel.


Desired Requirements

  • Advanced degree (master’s or PhD) in Metallurgical Engineering or related field. 
  • Certifications in NDT methods, especially in tomography and ultrasonic testing. 
  • Experience with CAD software and materials simulation tools. 
  • Previous experience in Aerospace Industry. 
  • Familiar with the main manufacturing technologies and capabilities 
  • Knowledge of the most common corrosion prevention rules and surface protection. 
  • Knowledge of the most common cryogenic (LOX) cleaning procedures. 
  • Knowledge of Cryogenic (LOX) manipulation. 
  • Familiar with Aerospace standard parts and typical light materials, metallic and non-metallic. 
  • An occasional need to travel with the role will be required. 
  • Self-motivated and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, dealing with situations that are constrained by time and managing different tasks at once. 
  • Able to work autonomously with little supervision.
