About PLD Space

PLD Space is an international space services company with in-house engineering and manufacturing. It is dedicated to transporting satellites and humans into space, vertically integrating engineering, testing, manufacturing and operations of its reusable and sustainable rockets. Headquartered in Elche (Spain) and founded in 2011 by Raúl Torres and Raúl Verdú, PLD Space has established itself as a global benchmark in the space launcher sector. Its MIURA family of launchers and its LINCE manned capsule position the company as a leader in European technological sovereignty in space transportation, covering the full range of space missions.

With a team of more than 280 employees and 170 million in total funding, PLD Space also has the largest private test benches in Europe, located in Teruel (Spain), and operates two launch bases: El Arenosillo, in Huelva (Spain); and the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), in Kourou (French Guiana). In total, it has more than 188,000m2 of industrial infrastructures under management.

Mission

As Avionics AIT Engineer at PLD Space, your main mission is to:

  • Plan, define, control and manage the AIT activities of avionics equipment at unit level.
  • Plan, define and support the AIT activities of avionics equipment at both subsystem (major assemblies) and system levels.
  • Define and/or optimize the processes for the unit-level assembly and integration of avionics equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and analyze avionics requirements to derive test specifications.
  • Perform tailoring of normative, standards and recommendations applicable to the assembly, integration, and testing activities.
  • Define assembly, integration and test plans and procedures of avionics equipment at unit level.
  • Define test plans and procedures for subsystem-level integrated assemblies (Avionics Test Bench in Hardware-in-the-Loop).
  • Support the execution of unit test campaigns (design verification, qualification and acceptance).
  • Support and audit the correct integration and functional validation of avionics equipment installed in major assemblies, which may be used for both testing and flight (engines, turbo-pumps, tanks, vehicle sections and stages, etc.).
  • Generate and release on schedule engineering documentation such as Test Specifications, AIT Plans, AIT Procedures, and Verification Control Documents.
  • Document the verification and validation results thoroughly and clearly via review meetings.
  • Partner with production engineers to implement work instructions and integration procedures of avionics equipment in major assemblies.
  • Work closely with and consistently provide feedback to responsible design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and test lab teams to drive design or infrastructure improvements to increase product reliability and yield.

Necessary Requirements

  • University Degree - Engineer (Electronic, Electrical, Aerospace, Telecommunications, or equivalent)
  • 3+ years of experience with avionics AIT activities.
  • 2+ years of experience in a hardware and software testing environment.
  • Work independently, in a structured and results-oriented manner to achieve goals on time and to coordinate work processes efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Language - English and Spanish.

Desired Competencies

  • Knowledge of ECSS, IPC, NASA, and MIL Standards.
  • Experience with assembly, integration and testing of avionics hardware such as flight computers, sensors, batteries, power control and distribution units, antennas, transmitters, receivers, electrical and electro-mechanical actuators, etc.
  • Experience with environmental testing such as thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, EMI/EMC.
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and electronics manufacturing to analyze and improve test coverage.
  • Experience analyzing circuits and developing functional test plans.
  • Proven track record solving complex problems with minimal supervision and on a tight schedule.
  • Experience in working in clean room and EPA (Electrostatic Protection Area) environments.
  • Previous experience in Launch Vehicles projects.
