About PLD:
PLD Space is an international space services company with in-house engineering and manufacturing. It is dedicated to transporting satellites and humans into space, vertically integrating engineering, testing, manufacturing and operations of its reusable and sustainable rockets. Headquartered in Elche (Spain) and founded in 2011 by Raúl Torres and Raúl Verdú, PLD Space has established itself as a global benchmark in the space launcher sector. Its MIURA family of launchers and its LINCE manned capsule position the company as a leader in European technological sovereignty in space transportation, covering the full range of space missions.
With a team of more than 350 employees and 220 million in total funding, PLD Space also has the largest private test benches in Europe, located in Teruel (Spain), and operates two launch bases: El Arenosillo, in Huelva (Spain); and the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), in Kourou (French Guiana). In total, it has more than 188,000m2 of industrial infrastructures under management.
Teamwork, courage, determination and ambition enable PLD Space to guarantee an autonomous, independent satellite space access capability, based on reliability at a globally competitive price. The company is able to offer best-in-class launch services to commercial satellite operators, institutions, space agencies and national and international governmental entities.
Mission
As a Structures Analysis Engineer at PLD Space, your main mission is to optimize and validate the [JR1] design solution, contributing to weight optimization and guaranteeing rocket’s performance. You will also be involved you in hardware testing which is a key aspect of the job since it will allow you to validate designs and FEM via test correlations.
Responsibilities
- Achieve stress justification for new designs by using hand calcs and FEA methods for composites and metals.
- Perform test predictions and test correlations in order to improve FEA confidence.
- Perform complex modelling by creating global finite element model (GFEM) and detailed models (DFEM) both primary and secondary structures.
- Perform linear and non-linear structural analyses.
- Perform linear buckling analyses.
- Perform random, sine and modal dynamic analyses.
- Participate in the review process, preparing the necessary reports, memos and formal compliance documents (written in English).
- Liaise with other functions when required to ensure stress requirements are needed.
Necessary Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical or related engineering.
- Experience with structural analysis, all methods are valuables (hand calculations, FEA linear, non-linear, buckling, explicit dynamics).
- Fundamental knowledge of metallic structure behaviour and failure modes like strength and stability.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis software.
- Self-motivated and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, dealing with situations that are constrained by time and managing different tasks at once.
- Proactive and good team worker.
- Knowledge in scripting software such as MATLAB, Python or VBA
- Fluent Spanish and English.
Desired Requirements
- Proficient in using Finite Element Analysis principles and associated tools. Experience with HyperWorks/HyperMesh and OptiStruct is desirable.
- Good Knowledge on MatLab and VBA Excel is desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of engineering principles and design techniques relation to composite materials, classical laminate theory and finite element modelling techniques.
- Knowledge in fatigue analysis.
- Understanding of spacecraft manufacturing methods and processes.
- Experience in FEA correlations, structures
