About PLD Space
PLD Space is an international space services company with in-house engineering and manufacturing. It is dedicated to transporting satellites and humans into space, vertically integrating engineering, testing, manufacturing and operations of its reusable and sustainable rockets. Headquartered in Elche (Spain) and founded in 2011 by Raúl Torres and Raúl Verdú, PLD Space has established itself as a global benchmark in the space launcher sector. Its MIURA family of launchers and its LINCE manned capsule position the company as a leader in European technological sovereignty in space transportation, covering the full range of space missions.
With a team of more than 280 employees and 170 million in total funding, PLD Space also has the largest private test benches in Europe, located in Teruel (Spain), and operates two launch bases: El Arenosillo, in Huelva (Spain); and the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), in Kourou (French Guiana). In total, it has more than 188,000m2 of industrial infrastructures under management.
Mission
As an Avionics Technician, you will be responsible for the manufacturing, assembly and integration of prototypes, qualification and acceptance models of avionics components for launch vehicles and ground equipment, giving also support on the test activities and maintenance of the avionics laboratory.
Responsibilities
Manufacturing, Assembly and Integration
- Read, interpret, analyze and work from electrical/electronic designs documentation such as wiring diagrams, electrical/mechanical drawings, BOMs, parts list and schematics.
- Identify manufacturing, assembly and integration requirements and constrains.
- Generate and manage manufacturing orders and prepare parts and material required.
- Manage manufacturing, assembly and integration requests via management system (ERP).
- Self-monitor work progress against Program objectives and achieve on time delivery of all work.
- Manufacture and assemble high quality, high reliability wire harnesses and electromechanical components for both flight and ground segments (flight hardware of launch vehicles, test benches, EGSE, etc.).
- Perform the assembly of PCBs, carrying out tasks such as SMD/THT soldering, conformal coating, masking or epoxy application.
- Perform the electrical/mechanical assembly and integration of avionics hardware (batteries, PCDUs, on-board computers, etc.), Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and test benches at unitary, subsystem and system levels.
- Perform basic verification and inspection tasks of both flight and ground hardware in order to ensure it is ready to be operated or integrated in a major assembly.
- Support the testing activities of both flight and ground hardware during qualification and acceptance test campaigns.
- Assist with area efficiency improvement projects.
Documentation
- Create technical and controlled documentation about manufacturing, assembly and integration criteria and recommendations that include lessons learnt and experiences to help a continuous improvement in this area.
- Elaborate manufacturing, assembly and integration procedures and manuals to support the activities.
- Generate assembly, integration and inspection reports to communicate the results with a precise, complete and clear manner.
Interfaces
- Interface with the Process Engineering team to assist with the development of production processes for first time production runs.
- Provide interface with laboratory technicians to request and collect materials required for manufacturing, assembly and integration activities, as well as to assist with the maintenance, troubleshooting and reparation tasks of the laboratory equipment.
- Interface with the avionics design team members to collect and understand the design of elements to be built and identify requirements and constrains.
