Description

As a Payload System Engineer (Satellite) at PLD Space, your mission is participating in satellite successful design, development, integration, operation, and performance evaluation. You will play a key role in the design, development, and validation of the different platform subsystems, onboard payloads, and operations, contributing to the success of mission objectives. 

Responsabilities

  • System-level and link-level design in support of a robust satellite system. 
  • Work in close collaboration with ASPIC/FPGA, RF/Antenna, power sources condition and distribution, data processing and storage to design and validate hardware solutions. 
  • Work in close collaboration with software engineers for critical flight software development.  
  • Generate spacecraft and consumer equipment system specifications, requirements, and test procedures. 
  • Collaborate with customers and internal and external teams to gather payload requirements and specifications, ensuring their compatibility with the launch vehicle. 
  • Participate in the development process of payload interfaces, including mechanical, electrical, and data interfaces, to ensure seamless integration with the launch vehicle and ground stations. 
  • Collaborate with other satellite design teams to ensure the proper accommodation and mounting of payloads, flight dynamics, satellite operations and data downlink. 
  • Participate in payload integration activities, including assembly, testing, and verification, to ensure proper functionality and readiness for launch. 
  • Participate in payload compatibility tests and simulations, including vibration, shock, and thermal tests, to verify performance under launch and space environment conditions. 
  • Document payload integration processes, test procedures, and results for knowledge sharing, lessons learned, and future reference. 
  • Generate documentation, including user guides, guidelines and user manuals for internal customers use. 
  • Generate documentation for formal program development reviews.

Required Knowledge

  • Aerospace Engineering bachelor’s degree or demonstrable relevant experience in lieu thereof. Advanced degree preferred. 
  • >2 years of professional experience in system-level modeling. 
  • > 5 years of relevant technical experience in satellite systems 
  • Solid understanding of payload system engineering principles and concepts. 
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical interfaces, integration processes, and compatibility considerations. 
  • Understanding of launch vehicle dynamics and launch environment constraints. 
  • Knowledge of payload testing and verification methodologies. 
  • Experience working in the lab and using lab equipment. 
  • Proficiency in using engineering software tools for design, analysis, and simulation. Expertise in MATLAB, C/C++, and/or Python 
  • Expertise in designing and implementing system-level procedures and algorithms. 
  • Expertise in various multiple access schemes including downlink and uplink scheduler designs and tradeoffs. Understanding of system link budgets and analysis related to communication systems. 
  • Understanding of ASIC and FPGA development concepts, methodologies, and procedures 
  • Understanding of power sources, sensor acquisition and data processing hardware.

  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and industry advancements. 
  • Strong documentation and report writing skills to ensure clear and comprehensive documentation of payload systems. 
  • English B2-C1.

Desired competences

  • Experience in payload system engineering for satellites and/or other spacecraft type. 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for payload development and integration. 
  • Knowledge of data handling and communication protocols for payload systems. 
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and certification processes for payload systems. 
  • Experience with launch operations and launch campaign support. 
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for payload-related anomalies. 
  • French B2-C1.

  • Full time position  
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required, in particular to French Guiana (FR), during implementation phase.
