As a Payload System Engineer (Launcher) at PLD Space, your mission is to ensure the successful integration, operation, and performance of payloads on our launch vehicles. You will play a key role in the design, development, and validation of payload systems, contributing to the successful delivery of customer payloads and the overall mission objectives
Collaborate with customers and internal and external teams to gather payload requirements and specifications, ensuring their compatibility with the launch vehicle.
Participate in the development process of payload interfaces, including mechanical, electrical, and data interfaces, to ensure seamless integration with the launch vehicle.
Collaborate with the launch vehicle design team to ensure the proper accommodation and mounting of payloads, considering weight, size, center of gravity and other constraints.
Participate in payload integration activities, including assembly, testing, and verification, to ensure proper functionality and readiness for launch.
Participate in payload compatibility tests and simulations, including vibration, shock, and thermal tests, to verify performance under launch and space environment conditions.
Support pre-launch and launch operations, providing technical expertise and troubleshooting support for payload-related issues.
Collaborate with external payload providers and partners, ensuring effective communication, coordination, and compliance with customer requirements.
Document payload integration processes, test procedures, and results for knowledge sharing, lessons learned, and future reference.
Stay updated on the latest advancements in payload technologies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, applying them to enhance the performance and capabilities of payload systems.
Generate documentation, including user guides, guidelines and user manuals for internal customers use.
Generate documentation for formal program development reviews.
Aerospace Engineering bachelor’s degree or demonstrable relevant experience in lieu thereof. Advanced degree preferred.
> 5 years of relevant technical experience.
Solid understanding of payload system engineering principles and concepts.
Knowledge of mechanical and electrical interfaces, integration processes, and compatibility considerations.
Understanding of launch vehicle dynamics and launch environment constraints.
Knowledge of payload testing and verification methodologies.
Proficiency in using engineering software tools for design, analysis, and simulation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and resolve payload integration issues.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Attention to detail and accuracy in performing payload compatibility tests and simulations.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and industry advancements.
Strong documentation and report writing skills to ensure clear and comprehensive documentation of payload systems.
Experience in payload system engineering for launch vehicles or spacecraft.
Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for payload integration.
Knowledge of data handling and communication protocols for payload systems.
Understanding of regulatory requirements and certification processes for payload systems.
Experience with launch operations and launch campaign support.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for payload-related anomalies.
