Description

As a GNC Engineer Manager at PLD Space, your mission is to lead and manage the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) engineering team in the design, development, and optimization of spacecraft and launch vehicle control systems. You will play a vital role in ensuring the accurate and precise control of our vehicles throughout all mission phases, contributing to the success and safety of our aerospace operations. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the GNC engineering team, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high-quality deliverables. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, avionics engineers, and propulsion engineers, to define and refine GNC system requirements. 
  • Manage the design, development, and integration of GNC algorithms, control algorithms, and hardware components for launch vehicles and in-orbit spacecraft. 
  • Conduct analysis and simulations to optimize GNC system performance, stability, and control authority, considering mission objectives and constraints. 
  • Lead the verification and validation activities of GNC systems, including system-level testing, model-based simulations, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. 
  • Support the development of GNC-related documentation, including requirements specifications, interface control documents, and test plans. 
  • Collaborate with external partners and suppliers to ensure the seamless integration of GNC subsystems with the overall vehicle architecture. 
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in GNC technologies, control theory, and industry standards, applying them to enhance the performance and capabilities of our aerospace systems. 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the GNC engineering team, fostering innovation, knowledge sharing, and process optimization. 
  • Provide technical expertise and support in GNC-related matters to project teams, management, and business development for customer relations support. 
  • Generate documentation for formal program development reviews. 
  • Provide high-level and low-level feedback for MIURA 5 program development planning. 

Required Knowledge

  • Aerospace Engineering bachelor’s degree or demonstrable relevant experience in lieu thereof. Advanced degree preferred. 
  • > 10 years of relevant technical experience. 
  • In-depth knowledge of GNC principles, algorithms, and control systems for aircrafts, launch vehicles and spacecraft. 
  • Understanding of flight dynamics, attitude determination and control, trajectory optimization, and sensor fusion techniques. 
  • Proficiency in using engineering software tools for GNC design, analysis, and simulations. 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for GNC system development and testing. 
  • Knowledge of hardware components, sensors, and actuators commonly used in GNC systems.

  • Strong leadership and management skills to guide and motivate a team of GNC engineers. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. 
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges in GNC system design and optimization. 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in analyzing data, conducting simulations, and evaluating system performance. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple projects and priorities. 
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills to ensure clear and comprehensive technical documentation. 
  • English B2-C1.


Desired Competences

  • Experience in GNC engineering for launch vehicles or spacecraft. 
  • Familiarity with control theory and advanced control algorithms, such as adaptive control and optimal control. 
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies and programming languages for GNC system implementation. 
  • Understanding of fault tolerance and failure detection and recovery mechanisms in GNC systems. 
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and model-based development techniques. 
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and certification processes for GNC systems. 
  • Previous experience in a managerial or leadership role.
