Description

 As a Liquid Propulsion Rocket System Engineer at PLD Space, your mission is to contribute to the development of liquid propulsion systems. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and safety of the propulsion systems, enabling the successful launch and operation of our MIURA launchers family. 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the propulsion team to define and develop liquid propulsion system requirements, considering interfaces definition and evolution, performance and efficiency merits, failure modes and safety aspects. 
  • Define, document, and maintain system requirements, interfaces, and architectures. 
  • Design experiments and conduct hands-on testing to improve system models. 
  • Participate in trade-offs, design, and analysis of liquid propulsion system components, including engines, tanks, pumps, valves, and associated subsystems. 
  • Assist in the integration and testing of propulsion systems, including test bench setups, data acquisition, and analysis of test results. 
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and production teams to ensure the successful fabrication, assembly, and integration of propulsion system components. 
  • Develop and refine inspection, repair/retrofit, assembly and system test procedures based on lessons learned for maximum efficiency. 
  • Support propulsion system qualification and certification activities, including participation in testing, reviews, and documentation. 
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of propulsion system engineering processes, tools, and methodologies. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, structural engineers, and avionics engineers, to ensure the seamless integration of propulsion systems with the overall rocket design


Required Knowledge

  • Engineering bachelor’s degree or demonstrable relevant experience in lieu thereof. Advanced degree preferred. 
  • > 5 years of relevant technical experience. 
  • Strong understanding of liquid propulsion system principles, components, and subsystems. 
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, combustion, and propellant chemistry. 
  • Familiarity with rocket engine cycles, propellant feed systems, and ignition systems. 
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools for propulsion system analysis, such as CFD and thermodynamic modeling. 
  • Understanding of structural requirements and constraints related to liquid propulsion systems. 


Required competences

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex challenges in liquid propulsion system design and optimization. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners. 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for liquid propulsion system design, analysis, and testing. 
  • Knowledge of propulsion system safety requirements and hazard analysis techniques. 
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and certification processes for propulsion systems. 
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities. 
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies, methodologies, and industry advancements. 
  • Strong documentation skills to ensure clear and comprehensive documentation of propulsion system designs, analyses, and test results. 
  • English B2-C1 


Desired competences

  • Experience in liquid propulsion system engineering for rockets or aerospace applications. 
  • Experience with propulsion system test campaigns and data analysis. 
  • Proficiency in CAD software for propulsion system component design and integration
